Historically Hillfields Estate has been totally reliant upon oil-fired heating. In November 2006 a project was undertaken to eliminate the farm’s reliance on fossil fuels.
With access to over 260 acres of woodland the preferred heat source was wood. With the necessary equipment and skills and a feasibility study the farm was shown to have huge potential.
By the end of 2007 two solar thermal collector systems were installed to heat the water. Followed by a wood chip boiler for the central heating system.
The trees are cut into logs and placed inside the splitter which grinds the wood into chip.
The chip is then stored in the loading bays and when required is transferred to the hopper which tips the wood chip into the boiler for burning.
Hillfields now supplies wood chip to local customers. If you are interested in the supply of wood chip or any details about our project please contact us.
